There was a time when only a limited number of Gujarati songs were repeatedly heard, and even the small audience that appreciated them was gradually drifting away from musical gatherings. For artists, performing before rows of empty chairs had become a common sight. Gujarati sugam sangeet (light music) was struggling to survive, supported largely by public broadcasting platforms such as Akashvani and Doordarshan.
At such a time, Shyamal–Saumil undertook the mission of bringing the rich world of Gujarati poetry to life through melody. With talent, dedication, and innovative presentation, they offered their efforts at the feet of Lord Nataraja. Then something remarkable happened. New songs, fresh compositions, and imaginative presentations of meaningful themes drew old admirers back to musical gatherings and inspired new audiences to join. Empty chairs began to fill, halls resonated with applause, and the light created by this artistic movement spread far and wide.

Under its shade flourishes a cherished community of Gujarati music lovers devoted to preserving and celebrating Gujarati songs. Its name is Swarsetu.
